Lionel Gates
Founder & President/CEO · Vested NFL Veteran
I'm Lionel Gates, founder and President/CEO of Gateway to Greatness. I'm a vested NFL veteran, a University of Louisville alumnus, a transition coach, and a leadership developer.
My journey has taken me from professional football with the Buffalo Bills and Tampa Bay Buccaneers to transportation leadership, workforce training, and community service. Across those spaces, I've learned that growth requires preparation, accountability, and people who help you move forward.
I founded Gateway to Greatness to help individuals, teams, and organizations prepare for what comes next—and use their success to build something that serves others.

Football taught me to prepare, communicate, accept coaching, and execute under pressure. Those lessons continue to shape how I develop people in the workplace and our communities.
Through the NFL/NCAA Leadership Development Academy in 2023 and 2025, transition coaching, and hands-on training and safety leadership, I've continued building the tools to help others navigate change and lead with intention.
Always remain a beginner.
I believe leadership starts with a willingness to learn. My approach connects Mindset, Action, and Purpose with the whole person: their health, family, career, finances, faith, and community.
